Frequently Asked Questions

for InterKan.Net dial-up services

Q: My modem keeps hanging up. What can I do to prevent this?
A1: Typically this is the idle time-out on your computer or InterKan.Net’s servers. When the computer is idle for long periods of time, no data is being transmitted or received, and therefore the modem hangs up to free up the phone line.

Moving the cursor or typing an e-mail message does not count as activity. The simplest solution is to reconnect or set your e-mail to check every 10 minutes.

A2: Telephone line noise can cause disconnections. Some areas are notorious for line problems, making it difficult for some modems to maintain a connection or to establish one in the first place.

Nonetheless, we will be happy to work with you on any problems, so please feel free to give us a call.

Q: How do change my password?
A: See here.

Note: You must know your current login and password for this to work. If you do not know this information, you may contact Technical Support at 565-0991.

Q: I keep getting a box asking for my password.
A: First check that the Caps Lock key is off. Passwords are case sensitive. After checking this, if you still experience difficulties, please call our office for further help.

Q: What is my username / userid / login?
A: Your username, userid, and login are all different ways of saying the same thing. When dialing up to InterKan.Net, you must enter username@interkan.net.

Q: How do I log off the Internet?
A: Normally your PCs will prompt you to disconnect if you close your web browser or e-mail program. If not, then for Windows, check your taskbar by the clock in the lower right-hand corner. You should see an icon of two computer screens. Double-click on the icon. A box will open on your screen. Click on the disconnect button in the box.

Q: Error Message: "Cannot connect to remote computer, check…"
A: This can be caused by many things. First simply try rebooting your system and then try again. If it persists, please give us a call.
